Customer acceptance, industry recognition and technical innovation drive early success
WOBURN, Mass.—April 15, 2008—Sentrigo, Inc., an innovator in database security software, announced that it achieved a series of milestones in 2007 that established its position in the market and poised the company for continued growth in 2008. Highlights include the launch of the company and its first two products, rapid acceptance of Sentrigo’s software resulting in more than 150 active customers around the world and across industries, assembly of an all-star advisory board and recognition by respected industry publications.
“2007 was an incredible year for Sentrigo,” said Nathan Shuchami, the company’s chief executive officer. “We’ve pursued our goal of achieving outstanding customer satisfaction by approaching database security in a new way—one that doesn’t rely on appliances and is therefore flexible and uniquely able to address the insider threat. We believe in transparency to our customers and are the only database activity monitoring company to let customers trial our core offering by downloading software for a free evaluation, and the only company in this space to post full pricing clearly on our website. Sentrigo is grateful for the response we’ve received and looks forward to an equally rewarding 2008.”
Technology Innovation
In June 2007, Sentrigo released its flagship database security product, Hedgehog Enterprise™.
- Protects against insiders—Hedgehog is the industry’s first software designed to protect databases against breaches by company insiders and hackers. By residing on the database host, Hedgehog can monitor all activity regardless of its origin.
- Enables virtual patching—Hedgehog can stop recently discovered vulnerabilities before database vendors develop patches—a process that can take months—with no need for database downtime or application regression testing.
- Supports popular databases—Hedgehog first supported Oracle databases on all widely used operating systems, with recently added support for Microsoft SQL Server. Sentrigo is continuing to expand Hedgehog’s support for other databases.
- Easily integrates—Hedgehog’s open design allows integration with third-party applications, such as security information and event management (SIEM) tools. Sentrigo, motivated by customer requests, has already integrated Hedgehog with ArcSight using that company’s common event format (CEF) standard.
Sentrigo broadened its product line in December with the release of Hedgehog IDentifier™.
- Identifies users in pooled connection environments—Hedgehog IDentifier addresses a problem associated with most n-tier architectures, in which application servers break links between database actions and users.
- Allows accurate audits and enforcement of security policies—Using the product, companies can trace database changes to individuals and enforce security policies that assign privileges to people, not applications.
The company has three patents pending on technology related to database activity monitoring and application end user identification.
Expanding Customer Roster
Hundreds of organizations have downloaded the Hedgehog software. Over 150, across industries and geographies, have become active customers, including:
- California Institute of Technology (Caltech), a leading university and community in technology research;
- Centershift, the fastest growing Internet-based management software provider to the self-storage industry;
- The Bank of Israel, regulator of the Israeli monetary system.
One of Sentrigo’s customers is Israel’s Ministry of Health, where Hedgehog is used to protect databases containing sensitive information about patients treated by state-run institutions, such as psychiatric hospitals and wards. “Patient information privacy is a primary concern for us” said Lior Ilan, head of IT infrastructure and information security for the ministry. “Using Hedgehog allows us to not only monitor all activity and prevent illegitimate access to sensitive information on our own databases, but also deploy it to relevant hospitals’ databases and enforce the policy across the entire system.”
NEW Customer Service Companies, the leading provider of extended service plans, buyer protection services and product support programs worldwide, was also one of the first organizations to adopt Hedgehog for securing sensitive data residing in its databases. Founded in 1983, the company employs nearly 4,000 people and protects the purchases of more than 150 million consumers annually. “It is our obligation to protect customer data and comply with several regulatory requirements,” said Barry Danoff, the company’s senior vice president of IT. “Hedgehog addressed our needs, was easy to deploy and helped us in demonstrating compliance with SAS 70 and other regulatory requirements.”
Active in Database Security Community
Sentrigo has participated in numerous Oracle Users Group meetings across the U.S. and abroad, meeting directly with database professionals. Based on surveys conducted at meetings throughout 2007, Sentrigo released statistics in early 2008 about use of Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPUs) that raised the profile of database security as a whole.
In June 2007, the company joined the PCI Security Standards Council, a forum for the ongoing development, enhancement, storage, dissemination and implementation of security standards for account data protection. Working with the council, Sentrigo is contributing to payment account data security.
Broad Partner Network
Sentrigo formed core technology relationships that help ensure the smooth integration of Hedgehog with customers’ databases and IT infrastructure. Partners include, Oracle, Microsoft HP, IBM and Sybase.
Sentrigo has also attracted many channel partners to resell Hedgehog and provide consulting services around its implementation, including firms in Brazil, China, Indonesia, Italy, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan and Turkey.
In Germany, Sentrigo works with Alexander Kornbrust’s Red-Database-Security GmbH, which services clients across Europe and around the world, and in the U.K., Sentrigo is represented by PeteFinnigan.com, the firm of the renowned Oracle security expert.
To service customers in India and beyond, Sentrigo has recently signed an agreement with Wipro Technologies, and in Israel, Sentrigo works with two of that country’s largest IT integrators.
